Nadia Djavanshir

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

Biography

Nadia is a multi-diciplinary artist, specialising in contemporary abstract landscape paintings and ceramics.

Influenced by her dual British and Pakistani cultures and travels in Europe, Asia and North Africa, her work is rooted in ancient techniques and philosophies found along the silk route.

Having deepened her knowledge of sacred geometry, Kufic calligraphy and Indo-Persian miniature techniques, she incorporates the spirit of these noble art forms and interprets them in a contemporary way.

Nadia's work can be found in collections in the UK, throughout Europe and the USA.

ABOUT MY PROCESS

My Work

With a subtle, minimalistic approach, I strive to create poetry with paint; a narration of my disparate world.  Living a mélange of cultures has created a passion for the eastern world with a western aesthetic.

Using natural pigments derived from minerals, plants and earth on a kaolin clay or handmade paper, my contemporary pieces use traditional methods and materials in harmony with history and nature.

The delicate, minimalist paintings depict memories, dreams and impressions of faraway lands. They narrate a story of longing and belonging, a nostalgia for an elusive and glorious past.

The philosophy spills over to my ceramics where I am reviving pottery from 10th century Persia and interpreting it in my own style.
